About Your Session


How far in advance should I book my session?

I recommend that you book your custom portrait or brand portrait at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance. It's never too early to get on my schedule!

What’s included in the booking fee?

Your booking fee confirms and holds your session date. For most sessions, it also includes your design consultation, styling, photo session planning, complimentary hair and makeup, your photo shoot, and photo credit towards images or products.

What do I need to know or do before the photo session?

Before our photo session, I’ll send you a guide to getting ready for your shoot. It contains helpful tips on what to bring, preparing hair/skin/nails, plus posing advice.

How many outfits should I bring to my custom portrait/business branding session?

Plan at least five looks. Some clients bring six to eight outfits to choose from and that’s helpful. During the design consult and again at the photoshoot, we’ll review outfits.

What if I don’t have a lot of outfits?

For custom photo sessions, We will spend time at the design consultation to talk about how you want to be photographed and what to wear. We only need about 3-5 looks to get started.

Will you help me pick outfits for my session?

Yes! This service is included in the cost of booking. For a custom photo shoot, it is part of the consultation session. We go over colors and discuss options for clothing.

For business portrait or headshot mini-sessions, I’ll help you choose options from outfits you bring in that day.

Can I have my photos taken at a location other than the studio?

Yes, location sessions can be arranged in advance.

What is the difference between a headshot or brand session?

A business brand session is a custom session that includes a design consultation, multiple set options and backgrounds, complementary hair and makeup for one, plus extended photo session. Images are optimized for SEO and quick load times. This type of session is ideal for entrepreneurs, creatives, business owners who need images for websites, profiles, events, press kits and so on.

Headshot sessions are shortened photo sessions. The images are small files, head and shoulders only, suitable for LinkedIn or company profiles.

How long does hair & makeup take?

Hair and makeup typically take 90 minutes. If you’ve only requested makeup, it is about 45 minutes.

How long does a custom photo session last?

Plan to spend up to 4 hours at our studio or on location for full portrait and branding sessions. If you are having a studio session, hair and makeup take about 90 minutes, the photo shoot can take up to 2 additional hours based upon the number of wardrobe changes.

Do you edit/retouch the photos?

Yes, your photos will look like you on your very best day. I retouch each image with a gentle hand, smoothing out blemishes, removing any dark shadows, or fixing unwanted folds in clothing.

How does the reveal session work?

The reveal session is your chance to see and purchase the images and products you want. You’ll come back to the studio to see and select from digital proofs of your photos. I’ll guide you through the process. You’ll have a chance to see and touch product samples and decide what you would like to buy during the session.

Can I just buy the digitals?

Yes, each full-size digital costs the same as an individual portrait print. But when you purchase prints or wall art, you’ll also receive a complimentary shareable digital file.

Headshots, Business/Brand Portraits and mini-session photos are delivered as digitals only.

How many photos can I buy?

At the Photo Reveal session, you will see from 30 to 40 of the best photos from your photoshoot. You choose to purchase what you love during that session whether it’s just one or all of them. Collections offer the best way to purchase multiple photos.
